Elevated Bike Path and Bike Station to solve bikers’ traffic on the street level. In part due to an absence of an L line subway from Brooklyn towards Manhattan, high bikers’ traffic is often observed during rush hours. Introducing the design of an elevated bike path system where the 14th Street intersect with 1st and 2nd Avenue may help redirect bike traffic and thus reduce that on the street level. Apart from providing additional bike lanes, maximizing limited space while minimizing intrusion on the street-level pedestrian way are also core considerations of this design project. Inspired by a tree that reaches upward to seek space in the sky, the overarching design of this project takes on a vertical growth with free form shapes characterizing the facade and facilities involved. One main station at a roundabout is expected to accommodate around 20 bike lockers, grab-and-go coffee shops, and a bike repair station. A possible extension includes the inclusion of greenery and additional amenities such as vending machines and other self-service kiosks along the path.
